A MEDITATION ON INTERNATIONAL WATERS

At birth, I tasked myself with finding freedom.
My experience would then burn into my mind that being born within borders, is to be born an asset to the state,
an asset to the corporation, an asset to the man & an asset to other ghost functions intertwined.
A vicious dynamic I hypothesized to escape through a fictional pilgrimage.
I sought
freedom from
the statelandcountry.
Freedom from ownership. I fantasized about a land beyond borders;
A semi-anarchic space;
where not one state, corporation, man had authority but Mankind itself as a collective unit.
This brought to mind the Common Heritage of Mankind.
A universal human law that primarily prevents the militarization & exploitation of celestial bodies.
However, our body, as it turned out; was very much earthly.
Thus, the most realistic possibility was in fact; not land or sky, but the sea.
I dreamt of the territory existing in a state of transition. A territory in between domains. A liminal space;
The international waters.
Seafreedom became layered in a spectrum that began at coast, continued for 24 nautical miles until the Contiguous sea,
and then after 200 more nautical miles, where the Economic Exclusive Zone had it's end, you were met with jurisdictional non-existence.

“the most important things want to remain invisible. Love is invisible. War is invisible. Capital is invisible.”
Hito Steyerl, How Not to be Seen: A Fucking Didactic Educational .MOV File, 2013

The fluidity of water does not allow for thought to take root.
Thus, the journey became one towards the sea, a reverse evolution where I attained
escape from any form of thoughtprison through oceanic hermitage, through a return to the base.
To die at sea became to die as noncapital.
To live at sea, on the other hand; had more bureaucratic intricacies involved.
Maritime and International law conclude that when you are outside of borders, you are
a proxy of your nation.
You carry your fathermotherland with you, which is why we can hypothesize that freedom can be attained only
by rejecting the body as an individual unit.
Rejecting coagulation of the ego, breaking down the borders that separate you from everything else and afterwards,
dissolving the body into seafoam.
I considered this, an evolution made possible through devolution. A return to the primordial soup.
which then; undid my mind and fragmented my soul,
which then; set me free.
